THIS IS A C&P OF MY LATEST DEVIANTART JOURNAL
Hi guys,
I know I haven't been around a lot lately but I'm going to be around even less this coming week. I am going to be messing around on a boat :) I'm not exactly sure where we are going but we will probably pay a visit to this place at some point http://www.rosemoor.com/IPFiles/Nationalpark/skomer.html
At the end of it, providing I don't fall overboard or something, I will have an official RYA "Competent Crew" qualification, which means "can tie an acceptable knot and doesn't usually knock holes in the boat".
I'm a little bit apprehensive since last time I got puking sick in a Force Six in Swansea Bay and then caught a dreadful cold, so wish me well :D
I have also joined the local sailing club and I will be learning to drive powerboats this summer, and sail dinghies, and probably be doing a little bit of boat maintenance as well. I'm not sure where I'm going to find the time for DA, but I will try my best! And (here comes the relevant bit) I haven't forgotten about ELOZE. Despite the ridiculous amount of college and boaty work I have I am a bit over halfway through SM2, and I will try and get a bit done while I'm on the boat if I can. Taking lots of paper and pens with me and making sure to leave the DS at home :XD:
Requests/trades are either CLOSED or ON HIATUS for the duration.
Love you all ♥ |

ELOZE: I am happy to report...
that Shadow's Mastery is up.
We ended up with another 19 chapter fic in the end, so it's the same length as The Far Sea! I hope you guys enjoy it, it was a BLAST to write and there are some really fun characters (in my opinion! XD) Just don't be sending me hate mail when you get to the end of chapter 81...
It'll be up on TGA in a few days (I need to get TML a copy) so for now the tang version is the only publicly available one. Password was changed for beta-reading:
Thanks to Dr Sipp and FullMetalZelda for their hard work putting up with me :D (ok I feel like I'm writing an Oscar acceptance speech now instead of a notice about a crappy fanfic, so I better stop)

This is a notice that should make some people happy. Shadow's Mastery is FINISHED AND IN BETA-READING STAGE. I think that in another week or two it'll be up! (Though we may STILL have to add another chapter... we'll see.) It's been another very long wait, but I hope the read will be worth it.
Also, as a purely personal thing I would like to plug my DeviantART account (eheheh). It can be found at http://eloze.deviantart.com/ I am doing the 100 Theme Challenge on ELOZE, so if you like illustration please check it out. And if anyone reading this has a DA please feel free to note/add me because I love looking through people's galleries!
The North Castle copy of ELOZE is falling behind; I'll do something about that sooner or later (probably later, knowing me). Access to the tangwistel copy has been temporarily disabled for beta-reading purposes. It's all still on TGA up to the end of The Far Sea!

I've spent the last month thinking I MUST DO A MAILING LIST UPDATE... I MUST DO A MAILING LIST UPDATE... And then I get distracted by pokemon or something XD So, updates have been few and far between, sorry :( I'm not dead. I have some health and family problems at the moment, things are slowly being sorted out though.
I have finished chapter 88 of Shadow's Mastery this week and there are now two to go. This is the official announcement! XD And we all know what that means... Yup, WE'RE DOOMED. ...Well, I honestly do not expect to overrun this time, it looks pretty likely to be seventeen chapters. Of course the best laid plans...
I heard a few interesting guesses through mail and on the journal on the identity of the unexpected Knight but nobody has got it yet. (Not that I'd admit if they did, of course XD)
The North Castle copy of ELOZE is now complete up to the end of The City of Fire, by the way. Broken Mirror will go up on North Castle around the middle of June according to the schedule. It's catching up to me... Do check out NC if you haven't already, the copy there looks much prettier than tang's version!

This is a note to say that I am NOT dead and nor is ELOZE :)
As you may or may not know Shadow's Mastery is a very different job for me than the others were: from Prologue to the end of City of Fire, it was a simple editing job as these early stories were written in 1998-2000 and just needed cleaning up and updating to my current style. Then Broken Mirror to the end of The Far Sea was a rewrite of work from 2003-5, a period in which I took some bad advice and the story almost self-destructed as a result. There was a lot of stuff to be done, a lot of material had to be cut and replaced, but there was still a good underlying framework on which to build.
With SM, I have come to the end of my old works. Everything in SM is going to be brand new and original. It's the first truly "new" ELOZE story for three years! (A bit like Twilight Princess being the first REAL Zelda game since OoT I guess *shot* XD) Anyway, it's a lot harder than I thought it would be. SM is not going to be a comfortable read, I'm afraid. It promises to turn out a lot darker than anything that's gone before.
I'm working on chapter 80 at the moment and can tentatively say SM is about 40% done. I wish it was more! I've already made one false start which resulted in me having to dump 24,000 words worth of writing, and I am about to go back a second time to have a good look at what I've done so far and make sure it's conceptually tight. Hopefully once I've sorted out the shape of it, it will take off and I'll be able to get it done a bit faster.
So, who's gonna be the next Knight? Well, we've already met that person... and we know them quite well by now...

Not writing this time.
Those of an artistic bent may be interested to know that there are now two more pictures on the art page (http://www.tangwistel.com/eloze/art.html), courtesy of Metara. Now you can feast your eyes upon everyone's favourite homicidal lizardman, Kleox, and the very sexy Sheikah sorceror Carock (whom we will be meeting shortly in Shadow's Mastery, but I imagine people won't mind this sort of spoiler). B/W only for the moment, sorry.
Also, people, I need advice:
I've had no further word from The Missing Link about when/if TGA will be sorting itself out. While I have every sympathy for him and understand that real-life issues do have to come above Legend of Zelda websites in terms of priority, I'm a bit concerned for myself because nobody except the people on the mailing list can read anything beyond Zora's Ghost.
So
A) Should ELOZE, in your opinion, wait for TGA, or move elsewhere? B) If so, would you suggest I look for another Zelda site to feature it, or build a site myself? C) And if consensus is to build a site, would anyone be interested in taking part in a forum and interactive stuff like that?

Extract from Shadow's Mastery Chapter 76:
Change, when it came, was by degrees: first the air altered, becoming clammy instead of dry, stagnant rather than dusty. The downward stair widened further; its walls were of worked stone now, decorated with strange abstract carvings that glistened damply beneath the candlelight. And finally, at the limits of their vision, something glittered in the darkness ahead: a break in the stair. They came down onto flat ground, stumbling a little at the change, and walked the length of a vast-roofed hallway to stand before an arch of polished black stone that soared up higher than the light could reach. Carved lettering in a strange unpleasant script writhed across its surface; but whatever evil things were written there, none of them could read.
"We are here," Dark said as he came forward. Something had changed in him during the downward journey; his old familiar grace of movement had intensified, becoming something ethereal and almost dreamlike; he moved without a whisper of clothing, drifting over the ground. His ebon hair stirred, feather-light, in the steady breeze from the arch. They watched him as he reached out and almost lovingly laid his hands upon the gleaming stone.
He looks at home, Link thought suddenly. As if something about this place completes him... no, it has taken something away from him, some sense of physicality. He is as he was when we first found him, when we saved him from the mirror. But powerful now--restored.
Look at this! I promise previews, AND I MAKE GOOD ON IT!
So... Yes, things really are happening :) My life is still a soap opera at the moment but I am going to do my best to slog on through it because Shadow's Mastery is the one I have ALWAYS wanted to write.
I am typing up drafted scenes for Chapter 77 RIGHT NOW.

FINAL update pertaining to The Far Sea:
We are DONE.
Yes. It's true.
We really are done.
All nineteen chapters (yes, it turned out NINETEEN in the end) have been checked over with extreme care, have passed the editor's piercing scrutiny and are now in the beta's hands. I am not expecting anything vital to come up at this stage, but just for caution's sake will hold off for another two days or so to make sure. It would be rude of me to post it and then decide I want to change stuff XD
So, look for The Far Sea on TGA this weekend, assuming TML isn't busy or away. I have checked with him previously and although TGA is currently on hiatus he will make an exception for us. We are so lucky!
Believe me folks, I am even more relieved than you are to have this one out in the world at last :) I hope you enjoy the show.

And it's another update! Good news: we got 68 AND 69 done today and they are now with the beta-reader. Which, ah... paradoxically, probably still leaves us three chapters from the end of Far Sea, because we've gained rather a lot of material (i.e. two chapters' worth) during the rewrite and there's no way I can squeeze everything else into a single chapter. Look on the bright side, this story is now very likely going to be eighteen chapters long. Eighteen! Sixteen's supposed to be the absolute upper limit!
WE ARE GETTING THERE.

Hi folks, just wanted to let you know that Chapter 67 is done! My father had a stroke last week and is not very well which has knocked progress back AGAIN (seriously, with everything that's happened to me and my family this summer I'm wondering what's next... if you don't hear from me again assume I got hit on the head by a piece of the Mir satellite!)
...but despite all that I am still here and still working on it.
Which leaves us around three chapters from the end of Far Sea. FINALLY. (The clock's tickin'...)
Those of you who've been with me from the previous iteration will recall that once we've finished Far Sea we're at the end of the rewriting and into Shadow's Mastery, which is mostly going to be NEW material. Which means work should paradoxically go faster because I can make it up as I go along rather than patching together a godawful mess.

Everyone who has at one time or other asked me about ELOZE:
Now I finally take the time to go down my cluttered inbox and see just how many people have personally contacted me to ask about ELOZE, some of you repeatedly, I feel truly humbled. And very unworthy... And I'm sure this is the tip of the iceberg.
I know you're all fed up with waiting. I'm pretty tired of it myself XD Just so everyone knows: I have NOT gone away and I am currently about a third of the way into Chapter 67 of Far Sea. The reason it's so late is that work pretty much stopped for a few months. I have had a litany of problems this summer including but not limited to a friend's suicidal depression, my mother becoming disabled and losing her job, my own job suddenly threatening to take up all my time, and various other people choosing the worst possible time to call in favours.
However I do not want to bore you with excuses.
You've all had the patience of saints to wait this long, and I am especially sorry to those who emailed me this spring and summer and never even received a reply.
So.
In years gone by we used to have a mailing list so people got more or less weekly updates on what's going on. If anyone's interested in being on an email list please let me know. Alternatively I could start a livejournal to that purpose, although people might have to bug me to update it >_> |
